For the past week in science our class has been learning about our five senses! We have read many wonderful books about our senses and also engaged in several activities that help us explore our senses further. All of the kids really enjoyed learning more about how our senses work.
For touch we felt different samples of wood, carpet and even playdough. We then talked about how these different materials feel, and practiced using strong adjectives to describe them. When learning about sight, we looked around the room and drew things that we noticed in our favorite color. For our sense of hearing, the students listened to the sounds a glass filled with water makes when it is tapped with a spoon. Then, we explored how the pitch of the sound could change by changing the amount of water in the glass.
Here we are using our sense of smell. We smelled several different things such as shampoo, cheese, toothpaste and cocoa! Then we had to try to use our senses to guess what they were. Finally, for taste we tasted small amounts of cinammon, lemon juice, salt and honey. We used adjectives once again to practice describing these interesting tastes.
